Certification Training

This training describes the background and utilization of the STABLE-2007 and ACUTE-2007 sex offender risk assessment measures. It provides an overview, detailed instruction and practical experience in the use of these risk assessment tools. This training is intended for criminal justice personnel and other professionals involved in evaluating the risk of sex offender sexual and violent recidivism. In its discussion of risk factors, the course also explores the major variables that have been found to underlie sexual re-offence.

Prior training and/or certification in the use of the STATIC-99 or STATIC-99R is required.

What we know about sex offenders in Florida
Jill Levenson, LCSW.  This 90 minute session will first provide a brief overview of the national sex offender population. Drawn from the first nationwide sample of sex offenders on public registries, the session will present data describing demographic, offense, registry status, and risk related variables. Then, a similar description will be offered specifically about registered sex offenders in Florida. Finally, five and ten year recidivism rates of Florida sex offenders will be presented, with special attention paid to the Adam Walsh Act tiers, Static-99R scores, offender/predator status

Internet Related Sex Crimes: Updates on the Research and Changes to the Laws
Dr. Eric Imhof, Dr. Ted Shaw and Richard Brimer, LCSW. This workshop will focus primarily on the latest research on child porn offenders along with issues related to assessing risk for this type of offender.  This workshop will also briefly address “sexting” as child pornography and provide an update on Florida law as it pertains to “sext offenders”. Finally, a discussion of current ideas concerning the treatment of child porn offenders will be led by the presenters.

Safety Planning for the Sexual Abuser
Dr. Donald Pake.  Safety planning is integral to the management of persons with sexualized behavior problems. Florida Statute 948.30 requires a safety plan be developed as part of an overall risk evaluation before certain identified sex offenders will be considered for supervised contact with a child. Upon completion of the workshop the learner will understand the purpose and process of safety planning and possess both the resources and skills necessary to develop an effective safety plan for use with persons identified as having sexualized behavior problems.
